The quarterfinal round of the Section V boys and girls postseason tournament began on Friday night and saw five Wayne-Finger Lakes teams eliminated. On the boys side, Lyons would advance with a win in their final game at the Atwood Gymnasium of the season and the Marcus Whitman Wildcats defeated LeRoy by 1 on a last second three-pointer from Riley McLoud. For the girls, Midlakes defeated Pal-Mac 70-39 to advance to the semifinals and improve their record to a perfect 22-0 on the season. In the bottom half of the bracket, the Gananda Blue Panthers became the latest victim of undefeated Pembroke losing 67-58.

BOYS CLASS C2
Lyons junior Justice Smith was a man on a mission during the Lions quarterfinal game against Warsaw at the Atwood Gymnasium on Friday night. Smith had his seventh triple-double of the season finishing with 41 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists as Lyons defeated Warsaw 84-59 to advance to the Class C2 semifinals which will be played on Monday night at a site to be determined.

The Midlakes Screaming Eagles moved to 22-0 by defeating Finger Lakes East rival Pal-Mac by a score of 70-39. Alaina Forbes scored 20, Cara Walker added 15 and Claire DeBoover scored 12. For Pal-Mac, Katie Smyth scored 11 and Jamie Walker scored 8. Midlakes is making a run at the school’s first Sectional title since 1975.
