Danny Harrick scored 26 points to lead all scorers and Connor Fisher scored 20 as the Canandaigua Braves needed double-overtime to hand visiting Mynderse their first loss of the season, 72-70.
Mynderse led 31-28 at halftime and by a score of 43-38 after three quarters but scored just 9 points in the final period of regulation allowing Canandaigua to force overtime. The Braves grabbed their first lead with 2:14 to go in regulation on a free throw from Harrick to complete a three point play.
In the first overtime Harrick opened with a three pointer but Quintin Battle matched him at the opposite end with a three of his own. Then it because a free throw shooting contest that neither team seemed willing to win culminating with a Mynderse possession with 14 seconds left after a Connor Fisher free throw tied it. Jesse Kabat’s three point attempt missed the mark and Darren Miller wasn’t able to score on the offensive rebounding resulting in a second overtime.
Canandaigua opened up an 8 point lead in the final extra period thanks to back-to-back Devin O’Dell layups. But, Mynderse wasn’t finished. Kabat hit a three to cut the lead to 68-63 and Kellen Caraher had a pair of scores off dribble-drives to cut the lead to 72-69.
Then, after Jack Ferris missed a pair of free throws, Mynderse had one last chance.
Canandaigua coach Charles DeTaeye decided to foul Mynderse rather than giving them an opportunity to tie the game with a three-pointer. Kellen Caraher went to the line with 4 seconds left, missed the first and made the second. Then, Canandaigua threw a long inbound pass that was intercepted by Caraher at mid-court and his last second running attempt from beyond the arc that would have won the game for the Blue Devils was just off the mark.

What an Academy battle, Mynderse vs. Canandaigua! We, the Braves squeezed by in double OT by 2. One of the best HS games I've seen in years. Mynderse will be a real threat for sectionals and states. Kudos to both teams! #CanandaiguaProud pic.twitter.com/5PKXnnAMVs
