‘Best thing I’ve done in my life:’ Students get certificates at BOCES ceremony

Josh Bowden couldn’t handle the monotony of a traditional classroom setting, plopped in a desk while facing a lecturer.

Class become much easier when handling machinery with his friends through Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES, Bowden said.

The senior in the Port Byron Central School District was at Auburn High School Thursday night to receive a certificate in heavy equipment repair and operation at the certificate award ceremony for BOCES, receiving a career and technical endorsement and being acknowledged by the National Technical Honor Society.

“It’s probably the best thing I’ve done in my life,” Bowden said of getting involved in BOCES.

He noted the program helped make a seismic change in his career path, as he said he received two internships through the program.

Hundreds of students received certificates in everything from applied electrical technology to early childhood education to machining and welding.
