Canandaigua teacher passes away unexpectedly

The Canandaigua Central School District unexpectedly lost one of their own on May 30th, according to school officials.

Todd Feldman, who was a social studies teacher with the district, passed away. Additional counseling personnel will be at the high school over the next several days, as students, faculty and the community grieves.

Funeral arrangements will be announced when they’re set, per school officials.

Feldman joined the district in 2004 and had taught in Irondequoit for ten years, as well.

In a statement posted to Facebook, the Canandaigua School District said the following:

It is with deep sorrow that the Canandaigua City School District has learned of the death of Canandaigua Academy Social Studies teacher Todd Feldman, who passed away unexpectedly yesterday, May 30, 2017.

The District has provided additional counseling personnel at the high school today, and will continue to do so over the next several days, to provide support for any students or staff impacted by this loss.

Funeral arrangements for Mr. Feldman will be announced by the District as soon as they are known.

Mr. Feldman joined the District in 2004 after teaching Social Studies for 10 years in Irondequoit. He received official recognition as a master teacher by earning National Board Teacher Certification in 2009 from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, one of just a handful of Canandaigua teachers to hold that certification.

He taught Regents U.S. History, AP U.S. History & Government and was instrumental in developing an AP Psychology course at the Academy which he subsequently taught. He had a special passion for making sure students understood the U.S. Constitution, its underpinnings, and the need for an engaged citizenry in a representative democracy.

We ask that the thoughts and prayers of the Canandaigua City School District family be with Mr. Feldman’s family, friends, and the many CA graduates touched by his outstanding teaching.
