Macedon man airlifted after three-way crash near SR 96

Deputies say they were called to a multi-vehicle accident on County Road 6 near State Route 96 on Thursday around 9:26 am.

They say Wayne A. Dunbar, 30, of Macedon entered Route 96 from County Road 6 – attempting to make a left turn and was struck by an SUV operated by Douglas C. Groover, 52, of Newark.

Deputies say this caused Dunbar’s vehicle to hit head-on with a tractor-trailer, operated by Jeremiah A. Fink, 27, of Rochester.

Oaks Corners and Phelps fire departments responded to the scene. Dunbar was extricated at the scene and transported via Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital with a back injury.

Groover was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, as well, by Phelps Ambulance.

The cause of the accident was a failure to yield the right of way by Dunbar, who deputies say will be ticketed.

No other injuries were reported.
