Last week Donna Cathy filed petitions in this year’s race for Seneca County Judge to secure her ballot positions for the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform lines.
“As I met hundreds of Seneca County residents collecting signatures over the past six weeks, it was clear that they want a judge who is impartial, is experienced and has common sense,” said Cathy. “My experience as District Attorney, as a successful private practice attorney, as a community volunteer, as a mother, and as a coach have prepared me well for the unique and challenging cases that our next County Judge will face.”
Cathy served as Seneca County District Attorney from 1994 to 2001, winning election twice as a Republican. Since leaving office, Ms. Cathy has operated her own successful private legal practice based in Waterloo. She has handled thousands of cases and has presented across the state on topics related to elder abuse and domestic violence.
A highly experienced attorney, Cathy served in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office, St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office, Syracuse Housing Authority, and on the staff of former State Senator Mike Nozzolio. She also has helped teach our next generation of attorneys as an Adjunct Professor at Syracuse University College of Law and coached the Syracuse Law School Moot Court Jessup Team.
As a 25-year resident of Seneca County, she has also given back to our community by volunteering for numerous community organizations, including the American Red Cross in the Finger Lakes, Children and Youth Task Force in Seneca County, Seneca Falls Rotary Club, Seneca County Bar Association, Stop DWI Committee, Drug Abuse Task Force, Wayne-Finger Lakes Steering Committee for Safe Schools and Strong Communities, Congressional Academy Review Board, local Cub Scouts and our area YMCA.
Cathy, 57, lives in Waterloo with her teenage son. She was raised in neighboring Wayne County where she learned the value of hard work at any early age as a laborer at a Finger Lakes apple farm starting at the age of 11.
This year’s Primary Election is slated for Thursday, September 13th. The General Election is set for Tuesday, November 6th. The seat is up for election this year due to the impending retirement of Judge Dennis Bender.
