Dog left inside 120-degree car in Clifton Springs, Penn Yan man charged

A Yates County man accused of leaving a dog inside a hot car outside Clifton Springs Hospital is facing animal cruelty charges.

Robert McKay, 77, of Penn Yan was charged with animal cruelty and leaving a dog in a vehicle in extreme heat conditions according to the Ontario County Humane Society.

Officers were called to the vehicle, which was parked outside the Clifton Springs Hospital in Clifton Springs, around 11:10 a.m. Monday. A hospital employee spotted the dog, a Shar-pei mix named Mr. Rinkles who was in distress, and removed the dog from the car.

The dog was immediately given water and placed in the shade before being taken to the Ontario County Humane Society.

Officials said the temperature inside the parked car reached 120 degrees.

McKay will face the charges in Clifton Springs Court at a later date.
