Newark burglar loses appeal

An appeals court has upheld a 12-year prison sentence given to a Newark man for a 2015 burglary spree.

In a decision filed Friday, the Fourth Judicial Department of state Supreme Court’s Appellate Division unanimously affirmed the Wayne County Court conviction of Daniel Fisher.

Fisher pleaded guilty in 2016 to felony counts of burglary, attempted burglary, and grand larceny. He was sentenced by now retired county Judge Dennis Kehoe to 12 years behind bars.

Newark police arrested Fisher in March 2016 following a long investigation into numerous overnight burglaries in the summer of 2015. He admitted breaking into three homes while the residents were asleep and driving away with their vehicles after taking cash, credit cards and other items.

Fisher was apprehended after Newark police and evidence technicians collected DNA at six burglary scenes. Some of that evidence was used to tie Fisher to burglaries at three homes.
