The rise of social media has changed the way the world communicates.
In 2004, Facebook was founded in a college dorm. There weren’t a lot of users, and the most-dominant social media platform in the 2000s was Myspace. All of that has changed. There are over 3 billion active social media accounts online, and in two quarters of 2017 – more than 121 million accounts were added.
.
Responsible usage on those platforms has become a challenge. In the early days of the Internet – anonymous chats and forums were the dominant platform for communicating online. Now, Facebook has allowed users to feel comfortable and confident sharing their thoughts and opinions online.
On Monday, March 26th at 6:30 p.m. the Seneca Falls Central School District will host an event for parents teaching and promoting responsible social media usage.
Previewing that event, Superintendent Bob McKeveny, and others were in-studio talking about the impacts social media has on students and parents.
