Over the past few years, Twisted Rail Brewing Company has become a staple stopping place for the Finger Lakes. In an area renowned for locally-brewed beverages, the microbrewery has found success in this niche market. With two popular locations in Canandaigua and Macedon, the owners of Twisted Rail recently decided to open their Seneca Lake Tasting Room in downtown Geneva.
Located next to the iconic old-fashioned movie theatre, Twisted Rail’s new room settles in nicely with the historic atmosphere of Exchange Street. This section of Geneva boasts architecture reminiscent of the city’s heyday and provides the tasting room with a unique setting of antiquity and nostalgia.
Founder John Mcmullen and owning Partner Ian Boni began their hop journey in 2013 and based on the newest opening, look towards an expanding and adapting future for Twisted Rail. The Geneva location opened in late December and has been enjoying recent success since the return of college students to the area.
William Smith senior, Monika von Brauchitcsh has become one of the brewery’s newest fans. “After spending an evening at the brewery with my friends, I plan to return regularly to Twisted Rail,” says von Brauchitcsh. “The ambiance and non-beer options have definitely won me over.”
The tasting rooms appeals to a large consumer population given the options in their menu. Although founded on the dream of brewing beer and distributing it to beer lovers, the company has strategically learned to incorporate a variety of beverages. In addition to the fresh craft beer, the room offers wines from Heron Hill and spirits from Rochester’s Black Button Distilling.
“With businesses like this, I am able to gain the full Finger Lakes experience,” say von Brauchitcsh.
Like most Finger Lakes businesses, the ingredients and supplies are kept local and speak to the area’s established identity as New York State’s brewing capital.
