Geneva Farmers Market sees Saturdays in its future

“Convenient hours” are not words many people would associate with the Geneva Farmers Market.

The market, held during the warmer months in the Exchange Street parking lot downtown, operates Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., meaning some people probably get only occasional chances to stop by.

The city is changing that — not by moving the day and hours of the current market, but by creating a Saturday event as well — with a lakeside location to boot.

“We’ve had a lot of people mention that they can’t get to the Thursday market,” said Geneva City Recreation Supervisor Toni Shama.

The Geneva Farmers Market Saturday edition makes its debut at the new Finger Lakes Welcome Center (formerly the Geneva Visitors Center) at Lakefront Park starting June 23. It will run until Sept. 1.
