The Federal Emergency Management Agency denied New York's appeal for a major disaster declaration, but some federal aid will be available for Cayuga County and other counties affected by flooding and severe storms last summer.
The state requested a major disaster declaration for Cayuga and 14 other counties due to severe storms in July. The state's application was denied in December.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration appealed the decision, but it wasn't successful. The state was informed in late January that FEMA denied the appeal.
Cuomo requested a preliminary damage assessment conducted by federal and state officials. The assessment found the summer storms caused more than $30 million in damages.
