Del Lago Resort & Casino announced two upcoming shows. Night Ranger will perform April 26th at The Vine and The Platters with special guests Drifters Review will take the stage April 27th. In 1953, bass singer Herb Reed assembled four men and created the now legendary group The Platters. Reed was inspired to name the group based on hearing a disc jockey refer to records as platters. One of the most successful vocal groups of the early rock-and-roll era, the group had 40 charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1955 and 1967, including four No. 1 hits. Through their recordings and performances, Reed and the other members made The Platters famous and of major importance in the music industry. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998. “Only You (and You Alone)” and “The Great Pretender” were later named songs of the century and entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 and 2002 respectively. The Platters became the first African-American group to achieve international superstardom.
Joining The Platters as special guest is Drifters Review. The music of The Drifters is a great reminder that love songs transcend all ages with hits from “Save the Last Dance For Me,” and “Up on the Roof,” plus the timeless “Stand By Me.” Rolling Stone magazine said the iconic classic American musicians were the top “500 Greatest Rock and Roll Performers.” No wonder they were the first group to be inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The beautiful “There Goes My Baby” enchants but it’s the classic “Under the Boardwalk” that is the most played R&B disc of all time. The Drifters tribute honors the legacy of the founding members of The Drifters, including “Original Drifter” Bill Pinkney who they performed with for many years.
