Guns stolen from Hopewell residence, resold in Geneva; search for suspect, weapons remains active

On Tuesday, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office received a report of several guns being stolen from a residence in Hopewell.

During the subsequent investigation it was learned that a 16-year-old Hopewell resident stole a handgun and two rifles from the location. It was also determined that the 16-year-old sold two of the guns to a 21-year-old Geneva resident.

While the juvenile was not named in the police report — the 21-year-old Geneva man was identified as Christian Garcia. At that point, Garcia resold the two guns inside the City of Geneva.

Investigators say the 16-year-old was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny. Meanwhile, Garcia was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Both were arraigned in Hopewell Town Court and remanded to the Ontario County Jail.

One of the guns was recovered by detectives with the Geneva Police Department, according to deputies. However, the investigation into the other weapons, as well as additional suspects remains active.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Geneva Police Department, Canandaigua Police Department and Ontario County Probation.
