The Lyons Lions and Clyde-Savannah Golden Eagles were tied atop the Wayne County league standings at 13-1 heading into Thursday night’s match-up on Senior Night at Clyde-Savannah High School. Lyons won the first meeting between the two rivals in January at the Atwood Gymnasium and the rematch was much anticipated but was delayed by about an hour after a gas leak forced the evacuation of the sell out crowd.

The game eventually tipped-off at 8:35 pm and featured back and forth action highlighted by eight first half three-pointers from C-S senior Marcus Chance. Clyde took a three point lead into the halftime locker room. Clyde’s senior leader, point guard Derrick Chance, took over the game in the second half along with freshman Camden Chance to bring home an 83-71 victory.
The win was marred by trash talking between the two teams that eventually led to a skirmish in the third quarter that saw a pair of C-S students come onto the court and get involved which led to their removal from the gymnasium. Then with just seconds remaining in the game, Justin Smith was whistled with a technical foul and Lyons’ Justice Smith pushed Clyde’s Austin Diver in the back resulting in an extended stoppage while referees and coaches tried to settle the players from both sides.
Clyde-Savannah students stormed the court at the final buzzer, which came shortly after 10:00 pm, to celebrate back-to-back Wayne County league championships for the Golden Eagles.

Lyons junior Justice Smith led all scorers with 34 points. For C-S, Marcus Chance finished with 31, Derrick Chance had 19 and freshman Cam Chance finished with 18 points.
