Ormie King: Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES students make positive difference

Going back in time, a decade ago, I was working at RSVP as the van driver, when I got a call from Al Pola, who is a terrific guy and he and his group of kids from BOCES do a lot to improve our community. What about Al? He was a former law enforcement officer, and he is a certified teacher as well as a practicing attorney. He’s been employed with the Cayuga Onondaga BOCES for 17 years as a criminal justice instructor.

He asked me if I transported anyone at RSVP that needed help maintaining their homes. I thought about it and I told him about a great gal, Nell Caffrey, who lived on Second Avenue and could use help maintaining her yard. Al says to me, don’t worry, our students will take care of it, and they did a great job. Nell’s daughter, Mary Caffrey, wrote a beautiful letter in praise of Al and his work crew of students.
