Kowalski leaves SLPWA board, joins Seneca Lake Guardian board

For the past 10 years, Mary Anne Kowalski was the face of the Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association.

The Romulus resident announced Friday she has resigned from the organization’s board of directors. Kowalski, who remains a Pure Waters member, has joined the board of Seneca Lake Guardian, an affiliate of Waterkeeper.

She served as Pure Waters president from 2011-16.

“I want to thank all the dedicated women and men who assisted and supported all of our initiatives and hope they will continue to advocate for Seneca Lake,” Kowalski said in a statement issued by Pure Waters.

Under her direction, Pure Waters challenged the state Health Department for its failure to release documents about the health impacts of hydrofracking. The organization also filed to be a petitioner in the challenge against LPG storage in the Schuyler County town of Reading, just north of Watkins Glen.
