Tony Stewart appears in Utica to ask judge to toss wrongful death claims against him

Tony Stewart today appeared in federal court in Utica to ask a judge to dismiss claims against him in the death of Kevin Ward Jr. in 2014.

Ward Jr. was killed when Stewart’s car struck him during the Aug. 9, 2014 Empire Super Sprints race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. Ward Jr. had exited his vehicle after a collision with Stewart’s car sent his car into a wall.

Stewart was not charged in connection with the crash. Ward’s family sued Stewart, claiming he recklessly caused the 20-year-old’s death and gunned his engine, striking Ward with his right rear tire.
