New Asian restaurant Man Yuan takes over venerable Geneva site

Wing Tai Oriental Restaurant was the place where many people learned that Chinese food didn’t have to come from a LaChoy can.

The restaurant dated back to the 1970s when Asian restaurants were still a bit of a novelty.

Now, they are ubiquitous, popping up in small towns across America.

Sadly, the sit-down variety, like Wing Tai, has faded away. And it could have happened at the venerable Geneva site as well when its owners decided it was time to retire.

Thankfully, Asian food lives on at 164 Castle St. Man Yuan has quietly taken over operations with a menu for fans of not only Chinese, but also Thai and hibachi cuisine as well.

And unlike Wing Tai, a dinner-only establishment, Man Yuan is also open for lunch.

The restaurant is owned by Jin Chen, said her sister, Eileen Chen.
