Ontario County supervisors to get schooled on county landfill

Members of the Ontario County Board of Supervisors will soon be taking a course called Landfill 103 with county Planning Department staff member Carla Jordan as the teacher.

Details of the presentation will be finalized at today’s meeting of the board’s Planning and Environmental Quality Committee.

The course will be given prior to the board’s Oct. 5 meeting.

Jordan is an engineer who formerly worked for Casella Waste Services, operator of the 389-acre county landfill in the town of Seneca. She will focus on the county’s 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP).

That plan is required by the state and must follow the statewide solid waste plan. The county’s plan was developed and approved in late 2014. Jordan will also update the committee on steps taken to implement the plan.
