Wells College releases schedule for Native American festival

Wells College, in collaboration with the Cayuga Nation and the college’s Center for Sustainability and the Environment, Louis Jefferson Long Library, Buildings and Grounds, Department of Visual Arts, and the First Nations and Indigenous Studies Program, will host the 13th annual Peachtown Native American Festival and Education Week Sept. 22-28 on the Aurora campus.

Scheduled events include:

3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22: The festival social begins with a peach tree planting at the home of President Jonathan Gibralter.

4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22: Cam Hill of the Cayuga Nation will lead social singing and dancing at the Sommer Center of Smith Hall

6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22: Food prepared by Inns of Aurora chef Kevin Sennett will be served, while a new series of paintings by muralist Curtis Mitchell are installed in Long Library. An acknowledgement of the college’s location on historic Cayuga Nation land will also be released.
