All 11 Finger Lakes will now have citizen scientists collecting water quality data that is state-certified, a new development spurred on by the Finger Lakes Water Hub.
Scott Cook, supervisor for the hub, said the expansion of the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program, often called CSLAP, was huge. Hub staff along with Chief of the DEC’s Lakes Monitoring and Assessment Section Scott Kishbaugh, secured grant funding to pay for the program, so local watershed organizations and municipalities need not worry about providing financial support at this time.
Cook told members of the Owasco Lake Watershed Management Council Tuesday morning that CSLAP participants will be stationed at two sites on each lake after receiving training on the DEC’s monitoring and sampling procedures.
