A local man who seriously injured another man during an altercation outside a bar pleaded guilty to a felony assault charge Tuesday in Seneca County Court.
District Attorney Barry Porsch said John Pisano, 30, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault. A trial had been scheduled for next month.
The charge is a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison. Pisano is scheduled to be sentenced June 26 by Judge Dennis Bender.
Pisano was arrested in May 2016 by Waterloo police following an investigation into an April 17 incident. Pisano was accused of punching another man in the back of the head on East Elizabeth Street.
Police said the victim was seriously injured and airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Porsch said he had 30 witnesses subpoenaed for the trial, including more than 20 witnesses from the bar as well as emergency medical technicians who responded to the scene, police officers and doctors who treated the victim.
