More showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop on Wednesday during the afternoon hours.
However, the risk of severe weather is minimal compared to Tuesday’s round of strong storms that caused some damage in central New York.
FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montreuil says a bundle of atmospheric energy will be sweeping through the area, but ahead of that area — temperatures will warm into the 60s and 70s.
Montreuil continued:
“There will be just enough energy in the atmosphere to pop some thunderstorms, starting around 1 or 2 pm. The coverage of the storms will likely be similar to yesterday, with individual cells impacting localized areas while many other areas do not get directly hit.
The severe threat is not as robust today as it was yesterday. A little small hail and some gusty winds will be possible, but almost all of the storms will remain below severe criteria.
Thunderstorms will continue into the mid afternoon hours, with a few storms across the Southern Tier and eastern Finger Lakes lingering into the late afternoon and early evening.
By sunset, the storms should be mostly dissipated and east of the region, with just a small chance for a shower overnight.”
