A former deputy in Wayne County pleaded guilty to official misconduct, which is a Class A misdemeanor — carrying a one-year conditional discharge.
Devin Hall pleaded guilty to the charge after transporting an intoxicated Sodus woman back to her residence after processing her for a DWI charge. The incident allegedly took place on January 1st, and according to reports — the former-deputy engaged in an oral sex act with the female.
The incident came to light after Hall was called to a residence where the same girl was involved in a domestic dispute with her boyfriend.
During that incident a verbal exchange allegedly took place between the boyfriend and Hall. The details of the prior incident were disclosed during the verbal dispute, and the boyfriend was tasered.
When additional units were called to the scene, details of the incident came to light.
On February 11th the Sheriff’s Office became aware of the allegations against hall through a third-party.
Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts ordered an internal investigation and suspended Hall with pay pending the results of that investigation.
Ten days later a preliminary disciplinary hearing was held, and pursuant to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, terminated Hall’s employment with the Sheriff’s Office.
Hall had been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2015.
He was charged with official misconduct, second-degree sex abuse, and third-degree sexual abuse.
Wayne County District Attorney Chris Bokelman says Hall pled guilty to the official misconduct charge, which was the most-severe of those he faced.
