Deputies: Shortsville man punched child on trampoline

A Shortsville grandfather is accused of attacking a Red Jacket student after an incident on a trampoline, according to deputies in Ontario County.

Investigators say the incident began when a Red Jacket student bumped his head with a younger child while playing on a trampoline in the backyard of a Shortsville residence.

The younger child became upset, according to deputies after the impact — and went to the grandfather’s residence.

That’s when deputies say Ronald Gentle, 45, went to the area of the trampoline and even allegedly climbed up onto the trampoline — punching the student.

Friends of the student witnessed the incident, according to deputies.

The incident was ultimately reported to the Red Jacket School Resource Officer, who took Gentle into custody. Gentle was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

He was arraigned in Farmington Town Court and an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
