Seneca County has had several heroin or opioid overdose deaths in recent years.
With that in mind, the Public Health Services Committee of the Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 Tuesday to join a lawsuit initiated by four other counties against opioid drug manufacturers.
The possibility of joining the litigation to be filed by Schenectady County and three other counties was put on the committee agenda by board chairman Bob Shipley, R-Waterloo.
The committee was told that the intent of the lawsuit is to hold the drug manufacturers responsible for the increase in drug abuse currently causing a significant increase in law enforcement and Medicaid and treatment costs to the counties.
