Canandaigua man assaults woman during violent struggle, charged with contempt

On Saturday around 9:14 am members of the Canandaigua Police Department arrested a Canandaigua man after an alleged physical altercation between himself and a female victim.

Officers say that the female victim had an order of protection against the accused, who was identified as Edward Howe, 28, of Canandaigua. He was charged with first-degree criminal contempt.

Howe allegedly violated an order of protection by throwing the victim down onto a bed multiple times, obstructing her breathing by covering her mouth and nose, biting the victim multiple times, and taking her phone away – all in an effort to prevent her from calling 911.

He was arraigned in Canandaigua City Court and remanded to the Ontario County Jail. His next appearance in court will be on Monday.
