Injuries, overdose at scene of barricaded individual on Spencer Road in Ithaca

On Monday at 11:43 AM, Ithaca Police Officers responded to the report of a possible intentional overdose at the 500 block of Spencer Road in Ithaca. Upon arrival Officers were advised by two people on-scene that the subject attempting to overdose has a large knife and is barricaded in the bedroom of the apartment. One witness also had a serious injury to her head and arm. This witness was taken from the scene by Bang’s Ambulance to the Hospital for treatment.

Officers set up a perimeter at the location and attempted to make contact with the subject that was barricaded inside the apartment. Ithaca Police SWAT and Critical Incident Negotiations Team were contacted to assist in making contact with the subject. Tactical Officers were able to get a visual into the apartment, were able to locate the subject from outside and make the determination that immediate medical care was needed.

The subject was then removed from the apartment and treated by Bang’s Ambulance. The subject was transported to Cayuga Medical Center for care and treatment under the Mental Hygiene Law.

Possible criminal charges may be pending in this case. The name of the barricaded subject will not be released unless criminal charges are pursued.

Bang’s Ambulance and Ithaca Fire Department assisted at the scene of the incident. As of 1:30 PM all Ithaca Police Units are clear of the incident.
