Ontario County Sheriff’s Office offering annual Citizens’ Police Academy

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is announcing that they are accepting applications for the 8th  annual Citizens’ Police Academy.  This academy will take place every Thursday night from 6 pm-9 pm starting September 8th and conclude on October 27th.  Class locations will vary each week.  There are no fees associated with this academy.  The minimum age for participants is 18 (high school seniors are also encouraged to apply).  Participants will learn about the duties performed at the Sheriff’s Office, by Deputies, Corrections Officers, 911 personnel, as well as the District Attorney’s and Public Defenders Offices. The Citizens Academy covers such topics as, the road patrol, investigations, crime scene processing, K-9 Unit, Emergency Response Team, Marine Recreational Vehicle Unit, 911 functions, jail operations and court proceedings.
