On Thursday around 3:02 pm Fire and EMS crews responded to State Route 5 in the Town of Hopewell just East of Smith Road for a two car personal injury MVA.Investigation revealed that Robert J. Ostrander, age 56 of Rushville, was operating West on State Route 5 in his 2013 Jeep. He began to make a left turn into a driveway. In doing so, he failed to yield to a 1998 Subaru operating East on State Route 5 by Raymond J. Schultz, age 58 of Gorham. Schultz was unable to avoid a collision and struck Ostrander’s vehicle. The collision caused Ostrander’s vehicle to exit the south side of the highway and come to a rest in a ditch.Ostrander was not injured but was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield while making a left turn. Schultz complained of neck and chest pain and was transported to Thompson Hospital by Canandaigua Ambulance for treatment. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Hopewell Fire Department assisted at the scene.
