The North Rose-Wolcott Cougars, top seed in the Section V Class B2 boys basketball bracket, defeated #4 Attica on Tuesday night at Aquinas High School, 52-49. The Cougars junior standout guard Tyler Norris paced his squad with 19 points while seniors Luke Gerstner had 18 and Garrett Hoyt scored 11. Attica was led by 17 points from Colden George.North Rose-Wolcott’s win sets up a return to the Blue Cross Arena for a rematch of last year’s B2 Championship game against Wellsville as the Lions defeated Mynderse Academy in the opposite B2 semifinal at Caledonia-Mumford HS.The #2 seed Mynderse Blue Devils and #3 seed Wellsville both struggled to score in the first half leading to an 18-15 Lions advantage at the break. The 3rd quarter was all Wellsville who opened up a 13 point lead before Mynderse senior Ben Cafolla took over scoring 16 of his 18 points in the second half. Mynderse would lead by as many as three and held a 2 point advantage under 20 seconds to go in the game before Wellsville senior Cooper Buckley hit his third three pointer of the game to put the Lions up one. In the ensuing possession Mynderse would have multiple chances to score the go ahead bucket but shots from Cafolla, Jake Jones and Bret Anderson would miss the mark as Wellsville took home a 48-47 win.You can listen to the call of the Mynderse-Wellsville game on FL1 Radio here or tune in for the live stream of the full webcast replay at 12:30 pm Wednesday on FingerLakes1.TV.In the 2015 Class B2 final it was Wellsville defeating North Rose-Wolcott by a score of 52-36.
