Holiday tournament competition continued on Saturday across the region but the biggest story of the day came out of Geneva during the championship game of the 2018 Holiday Classic in which host Geneva almost pulled of an upset of the undefeated Northstar Christian Knights but ultimately fell just short losing 68-59.
During the game, history was made as Northstar’s senior guard Miles Brown became Section V’s all-time leading scorer surpassing Dansville’s Neil Weidman who set the mark in 1993 finishing his career with 2,441 points. Brown finished with 31 points and went 15-16 from the line. He scored an impressive 71 points on the weekend (40 vs Lyons on Friday night) giving him a career total of 2,449 points and counting with at least 2 months of games still to play. As far as the NYS scoring record is concerned, Lance Stephenson is #2 all-time with 2,946, less than 500 ahead of Brown. At the top of the list is Syracuse commit Joe Girard III who is now in his senior year and pulling away from the field.

Congrats Miles Brown on the Section V scoring crown. I'm sorry it happened against us, but happy it came to such a great young man who plays the game the right way. Too many talented kids don't respect the game. Good luck to a classy team. @PickinSplinters @FingerLakes1 @NCA1972 pic.twitter.com/GpAhDtv4sn

Geneva led 35-28 at the half behind their inside tandem of Reid Patchett and Akim Hudson. The visitors erased the deficit in the 3rd quarter as Tim Hinds hit two big 3-pointers off the bench and Sean Smith scored 8 of his 20 to give Northstar a 7-point advantage heading into the 4th. The Panthers chipped away and cut the lead to 1 mid-way thru the final frame, but never regained the lead as Miles Brown went 4-4 from the line and had two key steals to seal the win.
Patchett finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds, Hudson wound up with 16 points and 18 rebounds and Jagger Kerr added 10 points.
With 2,449 career points, now ranks 16th in NYS scoring history: http://bit.ly/2GMyswM
