The boys varsity soccer coach at Cato-Meridian High School has resigned in the wake of an apparent incident that took place last week after his team won an overtime match at Onondaga.
The coach, Gordon (Geoff) Carvey, this week following an incident in which players apparently made inappropriate gestures around a concrete statue of a Tiger — Onondaga’s mascot — near the athletic field following the soccer match that was won, 4-3, by the Blue Devils, according to a report Tuesday night on WSYR-TV.

It was the second boys soccer win of the season for Cato-Meridian, according to game results on Syracuse.com. Onondaga is winless on the season.
The Cato-Meridian school board accepted the resignation at Tuesday night’s meeting, according to the minutes.
The board also approved hiring Jeffrey Baum and Richard Lenahan as co-coaches in Carvey’s place. Lenahan is a teacher in the Mexico school district and Baum is retired from the Mexico district.
