A new storage facility hopes to open in Sennett

A new commercial self-storage facility hopes to open on East Genesee Street Road in the town of Sennett next summer.

Dennis and Diane Rex, the owners of 16 acres of land at 3616 E. Genesee St. Road, have subdivided the property to maintain their existing residential lot and to include a 4.5 acre parcel that they hope to use to build a new storage facility.

Dennis described the intended 3,000 square foot steel storage facility as “self-storage” and “mini-storage.” He said the building will house 24 storage units ranging in size from 10×5 to 10×20 feet.

Over the years, Dennis said he and his wife have owned several properties and through moving around they recognized a need for storage in the area.

“There was nothing really convenient for us on this side of Auburn,” Dennis said. “We’ve been thinking about this for four-to-five years (and) just decided to act on it.”

The property is also rocky, he added, and hard to utilize for much else. He and Diane figured building a storage facility would not only be a good use of the property, but would also be good for the town and could provide a bit of revenue as he and his wife near retirement.
