Deputies have shed new light on the accident that shut down part of State Route 21 during the early-morning hours on Tuesday.
It was an accident that resulted in two Waterloo residents being airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital.
Deputies say that around 4:06 am deputies along with the Naples Fire Department, Naples Ambulance, and Honeoye Ambulance responded to the area of State Route 21 and Eelpot Road in Naples for a reported accident.
Upon arrival it was determined that a sedan had crashed into a tree, and suffered extensive front end damage.
The driver, identified as Galdys N. Sykes, 55, of Waterloo had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters. The passenger, identified as Natalie D. Rivers, 40, of Waterloo sustained a head and internal injuries from the impact.
Both had to be airlifted by Mercy Flight and Life Net to Strong Memorial Hospital. It is believed that neither occupant were wearing seat belts, according to deputies.
A portion of State Route 21 was closed while deputies investigated and reconstructed the collision.
The cause remains under investigation, according to deputies.

Both individuals had head injuries but were awake when crews arrived on scene. They were both flow to UR Medical Center. Names and genders being with held for now. Still working to determine cause of accident. Alcohol & drugs do not appear to be a factor.
