One of two suspects in the stabbing death of a Sodus High School senior last December is pondering a plea deal.
Vaughn Gray, 19, of Newark, charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder and first-degree robbery in the death of 17-year-old Zackary Dwello — along with fellow suspect Hunter Peck — has been offered a plea of first-degree manslaughter, with a sentence of 18 years in prison, said Wayne County District Attorney Mike Calarco.
Gray was in Wayne County Court Thursday before Judge Daniel Barrett, along with his lawyer, Peter Pullano, who said Gray wants some time to consider the plea.
Gray may give his answer at his next court appearance on Thursday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m. His trial is set for Aug. 27.
Calarco and Assistant District Attorney Christine Callanan are prosecuting Gray.
Members of Dwello’s family were in attendance Thursday to watch the proceedings, as has become custom. They wear red T-shirts with images of Dwello etched on them, as well as special bracelets.
