The city of Auburn is planning a project to replace the bridge over the Owasco River on State Street — and on Tuesday the public got a first look at the project.
The project will include replacing the existing 73-foot bridge with an 80-foot span that will "provide an additional 75-years of service life to the city of Auburn," according to a description of the project provided during a public meeting at Memorial City Hall. Reinforced concrete abutments will be constructed to support the new bridge.
"We are going to have to take the bridge out, there's no getting around it," Superintendent of Engineering Services Bill Lupien said. "It'll be out for a period of time. In the meantime, there will be detours."
Roads around the bridge will be repaved as well. According to the project description, the project will begin at the intersection of State Street and Arterial West and end approximately 150 feet north of the bridge between West Garden Street and Wall Street.
