Mike Shores was re-elected president of the Waterloo Central School District Board of Education Monday night. Nicohl Swartley retained her vice presidency. Both were chosen to new terms by 5-4 votes — a sign, perhaps, that the school board remains divided.
At the board’s annual reorganizational meeting, Shores was re-elected over fellow board member Coreen Lowry. Colby O’Brien nominated Shores to return as president, with Swartley seconding that nomination. In addition to those board members, John Butlak, Terri Reese and Shores also cast votes for Shores, as did the candidate himself.
Lowry was nominated to lead the board by Charles Bronson, with Ellen Hughes seconding the nomination. Tiffany Folk and Lowry herself also cast votes for Lowry to lead the board.
In an identical voting breakdown, Swartley was re-elected vice president over Ellen Hughes.
Shores said he appreciated the nomination and votes to return as board president and expressed hope the group can “work together as a cohesive board this year.”
