Waterloo fire under investigation after overnight blaze

A house fire in Waterloo is under investigation after first responders were called to the scene on Church Street a little after midnight.

Around 12:30 am firefighters were called to 51 Church Street for the report of a house fire. Upon arrival, fire officials were under the impression that people may have been trapped inside the home, but it was quickly determined that no people were home at the time.

The fire caused significant damage to the outside of the home. Waterloo Fire Chief Mike Reese says firework remnants were found on the ground. He said at the scene that fireworks have not been ruled out yet as a potential cause for the blaze.
