Auburn Fire Department deals with an increase in medical calls on a sweltering Saturday

The Auburn Fire Department responded to several heat-related medical calls Saturday.

Assistant chief Bill DiFabio said the department had been receiving multiple calls throughout the day to check on people who appeared to be passed out or having other medical issues due to heat.

In one instance Saturday afternoon, a call came in about a man whose head was down on a bench — but the person turned out to be fine, DiFabio said. He said those types of calls had been coming at a higher volume than usual.

DiFabio said the department had received two such calls within a 20-minute span at one point. He suggested people drink water and to avoid the sun’s glare.

“Stay hydrated, stay in a cool place, stay in the shade,” DiFabio said.
