Former legislator sues Tompkins County for $500k in damages

Months after finding itself the subject of a wrongful termination lawsuit from a former employee, Tompkins County must face down another one of their own after a former county legislature chairperson and long-time legislature member filed a lawsuit against the county for $500,000 in damages.

Michael Koplinka-Loehr, who last made headlines during an unsuccessful run for Tompkins County Legislature against Lansing’s representative, Mike Sigler, accused 10 unnamed people associated with Tompkins County, as well as Tompkins County itself, with “wrongful termination and breach of contract of employment.” Koplinka-Loehr served as the legislature’s chairperson in 2009, the highest position on the Tompkins County Council.
