South Seneca seniors graduating with honors

This year, 17 South Seneca seniors have been awarded the distinction of honor graduate by earning a grade point average of 88 or higher.

Honor graduates will wear a colored stole around their neck during the graduation ceremony at South Seneca High School Saturday, June 23rd. Some students will be additionally designated cum laude, magna cum laude and summa cum laude to recognize their academic accomplishments.

Summa cum laude represents the highest distinction and is awarded to students with a GPA of 95 or higher. Seniors Julia Diamond and Skylar Shaulis are receiving this distinction. After graduation, Julia Diamond plans on spending a year in the area working before pursuing her education further at Wagner College. She has appreciated the student community during her time at South Seneca, saying that she developed meaningful friends including in other grades. Skylar Shaulis will attend Alfred State College to pursue nursing. She loved participating in sports and feeling the sense of school spirit at South Seneca.

The magna cum laude designation is awarded for achieving a GPA between 93 and 94.9. This year Hannah Podgorny will receive this distinction. She plans to attend Keuka College to pursue occupational therapy. While attending South Seneca, Hannah developed friendships that will last a lifetime and says she feels very close to her class.

Students with a GPA between 90 and 92.9 will graduate with the cum laude designation. The 2018 cum laude graduates are Braeden Bierwiler, Brittany Burgos-Post, Marris Eck, Jeremy Faulkner, Haleigh Mills, Benjamin Pollack and Charles VanNess.

The remaining students who have received the designation of honor graduate are Justin Carmona, Cameron Cupp, Amber Denmark, Patrick Eberts, Annabelle MacIntosh and Brandon Swanson.
