Plans from the Jordan-Elbridge and Union Springs school districts were among 49 school investment proposals recently approved for state funding, Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office announced Tuesday.
The Jordan-Elbridge district will receive $749,790 for school connectivity and $88,847 for high-tech security features at a total of $838,637. The Union Springs district will get $526,352 total, with $249,912 for school connectivity, $174,202 for classroom technology and $102,238 for high-tech security.
All 49 plans given the green light Monday, at a total of $34 million, are the latest batch of approvals under the $2 billion Smarts School Bond Act, an initiative for upgraded technology equipment. State voters backed the bond act in a referendum during the general election in November 2014.
“These critical investments in modern technology for classrooms across the state will expand educational opportunity, help ensure safety, increase student engagement, boost achievement, and close the digital divide,” Cuomo said in the press release. “The Smart Schools program provides students with the necessary skills and technology to grow and thrive in today’s economy.”
