There’s nothing quite like a $50,000 surprise on a Friday morning.
South Seneca Middle and High School administrators, faculty, and students were surprised with a $50,000 check from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The Reading Revolution funding will be used at the School’s discretion to purchase books, fund technology programs, buy computers and other educational supplies, and much more.
Since its inception in 2013, the program has provided more than $2.6 million to schools.
.
South Seneca Middle & High School was chosen for the donation because of the strong community contributions to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation through the Cash Cube program available in stores, particularly at store #6429 located on Route 96A in Ovid. Dollar General plans to make donations to additional schools through its Reading Revolution program in various locations where it has a strong presence.
“Through our charitable outreach, we strive to make a real and lasting impact on children and families,” said Denine Torr, Dollar General’s senior director of community initiatives. “We believe the one gift that lasts a lifetime and provides individuals with the opportunity for a better future is the ability to read well. We hope this gift will help inspire a love of reading, which will make such a difference for these students as they progress with their education.”
