Rotary completes major donation to Laurel House

Over a year ago, when Kevin Mooney was ready to assume the Presidency of the Newark Rotary Club, the Rotary board was urged to support Laurel House in the same manner that the community banded together in 1955-1957 to make Newark-Wayne Community Hospital a reality. The decision was made to pledge major support to the fledgling comfort care home. On May 24th, 2018 a check presentation was made during the weekly Newark Rotary meeting. This check represented the final installment of a $15,000 commitment to Laurel House Comfort Care Home. These donations represent the cost of a resident bedroom and bathroom.

Rotarians have been giving of their time to Laurel House. Rotarians Michele McManus, Sharon SanAngelo and Pat Albrecht were part of the Laurel House Gala Planning Committee which, last year, helped to bring in $20,000. Many of the Gala attendees were Rotarians and a significant number of items donated for the Gala’s auctions were donated by Rotarians. Laurel House has also benefited financially from Rotary chicken BBQs and pancake breakfasts. Rotary board member and Past President John Zornow spent an average of nine hours per week during the winter months helping to paint the interior of Laurel House.
