Weedsport school district budget a work in progress

The Weedsport Central School District is exploring different options for the 2018-2019 budget.

The district’s assistant superintendent of business, Doug Tomandl, said the board of education is still discussing what the district’s estimated tax levy will be. The district’s property tax cap allowed by the state is 3.58 percent.

Tomandl said the board is still looking at different preliminary options for the budget it will put on the ballot for a vote in May. The district has different increasing costs it will be dealing with, Tomandl said, such as a spike in teachers’ requirement costs. Tomandl said and the district hoped to receive more in state aid under Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposed school aid projections for the 2018-2019 executive budget, released in January. Under those projections, the district is set for a 1.66 percent increase.
