The city of Auburn will hold a public hearing Thursday to gather public input on how the city should spend some leftover Community Development Block Grant funds. The meeting will take place during the Auburn City Council meeting at Memorial City Hall.
According to Director of Planning and Economic Development Jenny Haines, the city took out a $1.3 million loan in 2008 to use for a host of downtown improvements, such as repairing sidewalks, planting trees and upgrades to Exchange Street. The loan was paid off in August 2017 and the city now has $134,883 left over from the 2017-2018 CDBG year to spend in order to comply with the Department of Housing and Urban Development's timeliness rules.
In order to spend the leftover funds, the city must first approve an amendment to the 2017-2018 CDBG Annual Action Plan. Thursday's public hearing is required for the passage of an amendment, as well as an open 30-day comment period, which began on March 1 and will end March 30.
