Investigators in Ithaca say they were stunned by the stash of weapons and other supplies they found in a man’s home earlier this month.
Police say officers investigating a tip of suspicious activity at the apartment on the 100 block of Dryden Road on March 7 found, “an unassembled AR-15 rifle, a gas mask, a homemade silencer, a myriad of ammunition to various firearms, pipes and other materials and equipment commonly utilized to assemble destructive devices, high-capacity rifle magazines, medical trauma supplies, a bulletproof vest, food rations, and fireworks.”
A man who lived in the apartment, 20-year-old Maximilien Reynolds, was charged in the US Northern District Court of New York Friday with possession of a destructive device and a silencer, as well as aiding and abetting the “straw purchase” of a rifle, Ithaca Police said.
In an affidavit included with a criminal complaint against Reynolds, an investigator says a WalMart employee contacted police and told them Reynolds had purchased firearms, ammunition, camping gear, drill bits, miscellaneous tools, hacksaw blades, knives, and other “suspicious” items.
