It will be a Wayne County vs. Finger Lakes West final in the Blue Cross Arena on Saturday afternoon as Clyde-Savannah defeated Mount Morris and Honeoye defeated Naples in the Section V Class D1 semifinal round played at Bloomfield High School on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, in the Class B semifinals at Marcus Whitman, the top two seeds in the bracket, #1 Mynderse and #2 Penn Yan, would see their seasons end one game short of the Blue Cross Arena. Class B Semifinals at Marcus Whitman High School: Rough night for the Finger Lakes East
#1 Mynderse 57, #5 Greece-Odyssey 62
The top seeded Mynderse Academy Blue Devils were ousted from the Class B tournament at the hands of the Leopards of Greece-Odyssey, 62-57, in the first half of Tuesday night’s semifinal doubleheader at Marcus Whitman High School. Mynderse took a 31-28 lead into the halftime locker room but trailed by 1 point after the third quarter and were outscored 18-14 in the final period. Greece-Odyssey was led by 14 points from junior Romell Griffen and 12 points from both Darren Davidson and Travon Harper. Mynderse was led by Hunter Haust who scored 15 points, 9 in the first quarter. Kellen Caraher scored 12 as did Jesse Kabat who dropped 4 second quarter three-pointers. Quintin Battle finished with 6, junior Darren Miller scored 4, and Devin Anderson and Jake Robinson each finished with 3. For Mynderse, it was the final game for 10 seniors on their roster. The Blue Devils finish the season with a record of 19-4.

#2 Penn Yan 65, #3 Livonia 70
Penn Yan opened up a 6-1 lead early but Livonia answered with a 20-0 run as the first quarter ended with Penn Yan trailing 21-9. The Mustangs could never recover, despite a 25 point fourth quarter, and saw their season end at the hands of the Bulldogs who will advance to face Greece-Odyssey in the Section V Class B title game at the Blue Cross Arena on Friday night. Livonia was led by 19 points from Devante Gwyn, 17 points from freshman Alex Minnehan, and 16 points on 5 three pointers from senior guard Da’Vieque Naulls. Penn Yan’s Desmond Battin scored 20 of his game high 25 points in the second half and Dylan Stape, who battle foul trouble most of the game, finished with 17 points. Penn Yan finishes the season with a 17-6 record and graduates all five starters.

The Golden Eagles held off a late-comeback from Mt. Morris to advance to Saturday’s Section V Class D1 Championship game where they will face the Honeoye Bulldogs. Clyde-Savannah improved to 19-4 on the season with the win.

Honeoye opened up a 35-25 halftime lead and never looked back defeated Finger Lakes West rival Naples, 70-53 to move on the Class D1 title game at the Blue Cross Arena on Saturday where they will face a stern test from Wayne County league champions Clyde-Savannah. Honeoye upped their season record to 14-9 with the semifinal victory. Honeoye senior Max Yale scored his 1,000th career point in the win.

Class C1 Girls: Red Creek’s Isabella Wilbur out for Wednesday night’s semifinals
Red Creek will be without their freshman standout Isabella Wilbur after she was disqualified from Saturday’s quarterfinal game against Byron-Bergen after a highly questionable intentional foul call. The ejection means Wilbur is ineligible to play in Wednesday night’s Class C1 semifinal game.
